This is the old design. According to the characteristics of the protagonist who can absorb anything easily. Therefore, the design should be simple. This is because all things near it will be absorbed. Therefore, it should not have too much decoration. The main characteristic is that the body of the protagonist is transparent.
The use of orange color is because I think oranges do not have a strong impression of gender or property (red for fire, blue for water…)
However, if the design is simple as this old version, it may be boring, it may not attract players to control this character. (Although my game play can control different characters in my future idea, and actually players already can control a girl after finishing the first chapter, most of the time players need to control the slime. Therefore, the slime should be made more interesting.
There is an NPC who has a big connection with the protagonist. It is a doctor, who has a big leaf on head. I design a leaf for the doctor because I think if there is a doctor in slime village, it will always work with herbal medicine. Leaf also can give out a feeling of knowledge which is suitable with the setting of the doctor.
In my setting, the protagonist already can control itself and not easily absorb anything now. This is because the doctor helps and teaches it how to control itself. Therefore, the new design of the protagonist also has a leaf on its head. This leaf is given by the doctor and told to try to control yourself and not absorb the leaf in your daily life. After a long training, the protagonist already controls itself well now.
I change the color to purple because I think it also do not have a strong impression of gender or property. Also, it is a more clear color when separating the leaf and the body and also the whole environment in slime village.
Also, the main ability of the slime is absorb (so it can absorb the girl and being the girl), which means it has the ability to “transform” because it can become a different creature.
I think many people may heard a story that Tanuki (a raccoon dog) can transform into different things. There is a leaf on their head when they use this ability.
If you have not heard of it before, you may know there is a famous game called “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”. I think this game uses this story as the reference to start the game play or story. For example, the main NPC is Tanuki, and the goods that player got will become a leaf to store it first.
You can see the design of the protagonist's leaf has a hole. This is because I reference this game. It should be a hidden meaning to let the player know the protagonist can become anything when the player continues to play the main story line.
